Election Commission Announces By-Election Following Resignation of Sanjeev Arora
Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India has issued a notification on 6th October 2025 for a by-election to fill the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab. This seat became vacant after the resignation of Sanjeev Arora on 1st July 2025. The term of this vacant seat will continue until 9th April 2028.
By-Election to Be Conducted Under Representation of People Act, 1951
The by-election will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of People Act, 1951, and rules framed thereunder.
Schedule for Nomination and Voting
The Election Commission has outlined the following schedule for the by-election:

Nomination Filing: 6th October 2025 onwards

Last Date for Submission of Nominations: 13th October 2025 (Monday)
Note: Nominations will not be accepted on public holidays notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Section 25.

Scrutiny of Nominations: 14th October 2025 (Tuesday)

Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidature: 16th October 2025 (Friday)

Polling Date (if required): 24th October 2025 (Friday)

Completion of Election Process: 28th October 2025 (Tuesday)
Polling Hours: If voting is necessary, it will be conducted from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
