Operation Sindoor Marked A Turning Point: Ex-DGMO Rajiv Ghai Sends Strong Message To Pakistan

Date:

India’s Counter-Terror Strategy Saw A Major Shift

Former Director General of Military Operations, Rajiv Ghai, described Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s security doctrine. Speaking during the first anniversary of the military operation, he said the mission changed India’s approach towards cross-border terrorism and demonstrated the country’s readiness to take decisive action when national security is threatened.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. According to officials, the operation targeted terror infrastructure located across the Line of Control and inside Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Ghai stated that India consciously moved beyond its earlier methods and adopted a more aggressive and strategic response mechanism against terror organisations operating from across the border.

“Operation Sindoor Was Just The Beginning”

During his address in Jaipur, Rajiv Ghai emphasized that the operation was not a one-time military action but the beginning of a long-term strategy against terrorism.

Quoting famous Urdu poetry, he said, “Sirf hungama khada karna mera maqsad nahi, meri koshish hai ki yeh soorat badalni chahiye,” indicating that the goal was not merely to create disruption but to permanently change the security environment.

He added that India’s fight against terrorism would continue with professionalism, precision and responsibility. According to him, the operation delivered a strong message that future terror attacks would receive a firm and calibrated response from India.

Nine Terror Launchpads Destroyed

Officials revealed that Indian forces targeted nine major terror launchpads linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen during Operation Sindoor.

The strikes reportedly eliminated more than 100 militants and significantly damaged terror planning and support infrastructure. Military officials described the strikes as highly coordinated and executed with strategic restraint to avoid unnecessary escalation while still achieving key objectives.

The operation involved coordinated efforts from the Army, Air Force and Navy, supported by intelligence agencies and cyber warfare units.

Indigenous Defence Systems Played Crucial Role

Rajiv Ghai also highlighted the importance of India’s indigenous defence capabilities during the operation. He stated that systems such as BrahMos missiles, Akash air defence systems and domestically developed surveillance technologies played a vital role in the mission’s success.

According to him, Operation Sindoor proved that “Atmanirbhar Bharat” is not merely a slogan but a force multiplier that strengthens India’s operational readiness and strategic independence.

Military leaders noted that the operation showcased India’s growing capability to conduct precision strikes using advanced homegrown technologies.

Strong Strategic Message To Pakistan

Senior military officials said the operation demonstrated India’s willingness to respond decisively while maintaining strategic restraint. Rajiv Ghai explained that India achieved its military objectives and ceased hostilities only after Pakistan was compelled to negotiate.

Vice Admiral AN Pramod and Air Marshal AK Bharti also underlined that Operation Sindoor showcased the effectiveness of coordinated military planning and national resolve.

One year later, the operation continues to be viewed as a landmark event that reshaped India’s response framework against cross-border terrorism and strengthened its strategic posture in the region.
