PNB AI Summit 2026: How AI, GenAI, and Quantum Tech Are Reshaping India’s Banking Sector

Date:

Punjab National Bank organized the two-day PNB AI Summit 2026 under the theme “Innovate, Integrate & Elevate” at its Corporate Office in Dwarka, New Delhi. The event brought together policymakers, banking regulators, industry leaders, technology experts, and fintech innovators to explore how artificial intelligence, generative AI, agentic systems, and quantum computing can transform the financial services landscape in India.

Moving Beyond Experimentation to Enterprise-Scale Banking

The summit highlighted that AI technology is transitioning rapidly from isolated proofs of concept to enterprise-scale banking operations. Addressing the gathering, Debasish Prusty, Additional Secretary at the Department of Financial Services (DFS), emphasized how integrating advanced technology into public sector banks aligns with the national India AI Mission.

PNB Managing Director and CEO Ashok Chandra outlined the bank’s roadmap for deploying Generative AI and Agentic AI. He noted that these technologies will fundamentally redefine customer service, streamline credit underwriting, strengthen fraud detection, and expand financial inclusion across rural and urban markets.

Quantum Computing and Post-Quantum Cybersecurity

A core focus of the event was preparing financial institutions for the era of quantum computing. Dr. J.B.V. Reddy, Mission Director of the National Quantum Mission, stressed the urgent need for quantum-safe banking and post-quantum cryptographic security frameworks.

During the summit, PNB recognized the winners of its Cybersecurity Hackathon 2026, held in collaboration with IIT Kanpur under the theme “Quantum-Proof Systems for Public-Facing Applications.” Participants developed automated tools to evaluate public-facing banking apps, identify cryptographic vulnerabilities, and ensure Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) readiness.

AI for Bharat and Intelligent Digital Payments

Technical sessions focused on building multilingual AI models (“AI for Bharat”) to cater to India’s diverse linguistic demographic. Industry experts discussed AI-driven real-time fraud monitoring for digital payment systems like UPI, hyper-personalized conversational banking, and agentic workflows that automate routine customer interactions.

An AI Experience Zone featuring interactive kiosks from leading technology partners including Microsoft, AWS, and Google demonstrated live applications of GenAI, advanced analytics, and automated security tools in daily banking operations.

Governance, Ethical Guardrails, and Responsible AI

While celebrating technological capabilities, leaders at the summit emphasized responsible deployment. PNB leadership and industry experts agreed that speed and scale must be balanced with data privacy, explainable algorithms, robust governance frameworks, and workforce upskilling. Trust and cyber resilience remain the foundational pillars as Indian banking shifts toward an AI-first operational model.
