CBI Arrests DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar for Bribery Charges

Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar has been arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding a bribe through intermediaries. During raids at his Mohali office and his Chandigarh residence, investigators recovered ₹7 crore in cash, 1.5 kg of gold, luxury watches, imported liquor, and several luxury cars.

Massive CBI Raid Reveals Hidden Wealth

A 52-member CBI team from Delhi and Chandigarh conducted searches at DIG Bhullar’s premises. The officers seized ₹7 crore in cash packed in three bags and two suitcases. Three currency counting machines were brought in to tally the amount. Officials also found a revolver, gold jewelry, luxury watches, and foreign liquor.

15 Properties and High-End Vehicles Seized

CBI recovered documents of 15 properties and luxury cars including BMW and Mercedes. Bank locker keys were also found. Bhullar, a 2009-batch IPS officer, is the son of former Punjab DGP Mahal Singh Bhullar. His basic salary is ₹2,16,600 per month.

Bribery Case Background

Bhullar allegedly demanded ₹8 lakh as a bribe from a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh, threatening to implicate him in a false case. The CBI is now investigating other officials suspected to be involved in the extortion racket.

Declared Assets and Career Highlights

Bhullar declared assets worth ₹15 crore, including a farmhouse in Jalandhar and plots in Chandigarh and Kapurthala. He was appointed DIG of Ropar Range on November 27, 2024, and gained fame for his anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashean Virudh.
