Electricity Department Issues Strict Warning to Consumers Over Pending Bills

Date:

Growing Concern Over Unpaid Electricity Bills

The electricity department in Punjab has issued a strict warning to consumers who have not cleared their pending electricity bills. According to officials, the number of defaulters has been increasing steadily, creating financial pressure on the power distribution system. Authorities have stated that consumers who fail to pay their dues on time may face strict action, including disconnection of their electricity supply.

The department has urged all domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers to check their pending bills and clear them immediately to avoid inconvenience. Officials say that the campaign aims to ensure financial stability for the power corporation and maintain uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.

Department Begins Special Recovery Drive

To tackle the problem of unpaid bills, the power department has launched a special recovery drive in several areas. Teams of officials have been deployed to identify defaulters and take necessary action against them.

During this drive, authorities are focusing on consumers who have large amounts of unpaid bills. In many cases, notices have already been issued to consumers warning them to clear their dues within a specified period. If the bills are not paid even after repeated reminders, the department may disconnect the electricity connections of the concerned consumers.

Officials say this step is necessary because unpaid bills directly affect the functioning of the electricity distribution system.

Warning Against Illegal Power Usage

Another major issue highlighted by the department is illegal electricity usage. In some cases, consumers whose connections have been disconnected due to unpaid bills reportedly take electricity supply from neighbors or relatives by connecting wires to their meters.

The electricity department has warned that strict action will be taken against such practices. Officials have stated that teams are conducting inspections in various areas to identify cases of power misuse. Consumers found guilty may have to pay heavy penalties along with the pending bills.

Authorities have also appealed to residents not to help defaulters by providing electricity from their own connections, as such actions are considered violations of electricity rules and can lead to legal consequences.

Appeal to Consumers

The electricity department has appealed to consumers to cooperate with the ongoing campaign. Officials say timely payment of electricity bills helps maintain the power infrastructure and ensures smooth supply for everyone.

Consumers are advised to regularly check their bills, use official payment channels, and report any billing discrepancies to the nearest electricity office. The department also assured that genuine complaints regarding incorrect bills will be addressed promptly.

With the ongoing drive, the department hopes to reduce the number of defaulters and improve revenue recovery while maintaining transparency and accountability in the power supply system.
