Village Panchayat Issues Strict New Decree to Combat Drug Abuse and Maintain Peace

Date:

Unanimous Resolution Passed by the Gram Sabha

In a decisive move to uphold law, order, and moral discipline, the local Gram Panchayat has officially passed a strict new decree (marta) aimed at curbing social evils and maintaining harmony across the village. The meeting, presided over by the Sarpanch alongside village elders and prominent community members, witnessed an overwhelming consensus to enforce stringent measures against illegal activities, drug peddling, and public disturbances.

The decision comes in response to growing concerns regarding youth involvement in unsocial activities and the rising menace of substance abuse in the region. Panchayat members emphasized that strict community-level interventions are essential to protect future generations and ensure a safe living environment for every family in the village.

Key Guidelines and Restrictions Imposed Under the New Decree

The newly issued decree outlines several imperative rules that every resident and visitor must strictly adhere to:

  • Zero Tolerance for Drug Peddling: Anyone found buying, selling, or consuming illegal narcotics within the village territory will face immediate action and reporting to law enforcement authorities.

  • Curfew on Loud Music and DJs: To prevent disturbance to students and elderly residents, the use of loudspeakers and DJ systems beyond 10:00 PM during weddings, parties, or cultural gatherings is strictly prohibited.

  • Monitoring of Unfamiliar Persons: Property owners renting out accommodation or employing outside laborers must submit identification credentials to the Panchayat office for mandatory police verification.

  • Ban on Public Recklessness and Speeding: Fast driving of two-wheelers with modified exhausts that create loud noises is completely banned within residential streets.

Penalties and Social Boycott for Violators

To ensure compliance, the Gram Panchayat has established severe administrative and social penalties for non-compliance. First-time offenders will be issued a stern warning alongside a financial fine. However, repeat offenders will face a complete social boycott (s सामाजिक ਬਾਈਕਾਟ) by the village community, and official police complaints will be formally lodged against them.

Furthermore, the Panchayat announced that families sheltering or defending individuals involved in drug trafficking or criminal activities will also be held accountable and denied access to village-level developmental schemes and administrative support.

Public Support and Police Collaboration

The decree has received widespread applause from local villagers, particularly women and youth groups, who expressed relief over the Panchayat’s proactive stance. Local police officials have also assured full cooperation and security support to the Panchayat in executing these regulations effectively, assuring regular patrolling in the village premises.
