A seven-month-old infant who was critically injured in an alleged Pitbull attack in Haryana’s Sonipat is now stable and undergoing treatment at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.
According to the child’s father, Kailash, the incident occurred when his son was playing nearby while being looked after by his younger sister. The dog reportedly attacked after the owner’s children opened the gate. Kailash said the dog’s owner helped the family after the incident and that they did not want action against him.
Instead, the child’s father appealed to the administration to consider banning the breed, saying such an incident should not happen to another family.
Infant Under Treatment at PGIMS Rohtak
Dr Kundan Mittal of PGIMS Rohtak said the child was brought to the hospital on September 14 with severe injuries.
The most serious injuries were to the infant’s chest and abdomen. Doctors said the abdominal trauma was so severe that the child’s intestines had protruded, requiring immediate surgery.
Following the procedure, the infant’s condition has improved. Doctors have started feeding him milk through a tube, while he continues to receive antibiotics and medical care. Injuries to his face and back were also reported, although doctors said the abdominal and chest injuries were the most critical.
Father Appeals for Ban on Pitbull Breed
Speaking about the incident, the child’s father said his family had no grievance against the dog’s owner because he stood by them and helped after the attack.
However, he urged the authorities to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and called for a ban on the breed.
The incident has also renewed concerns over the safety of keeping potentially dangerous dog breeds in residential areas and the responsibility of pet owners to ensure that their animals do not pose a threat to others.
Sonipat Incident Raises Pet Safety Concerns
The Sonipat attack has brought renewed attention to pet-dog regulations and owner responsibility in Haryana. Reports from the area said the attack was also captured on CCTV, while local authorities have faced calls for action over the keeping and control of dangerous dogs.
For now, the primary focus remains on the infant’s recovery. Doctors at PGIMS Rohtak are continuing to monitor his condition following surgery.
