Indian fencing achieved a monumental milestone on the opening day of the Senior World Fencing Championships 2026, hosted at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. In an unprecedented performance on the international stage, Taniksha Khatri and Prachi Lohan created history by becoming the first-ever Indian women’s Épée fencers to qualify for the main Table of 64 in the tournament’s history. Competing in the qualification rounds of the Women’s Individual Épée category, both Taniksha and Prachi showcased exceptional technical grit and tactical composure. Rajeev Mehta, Secretary General of both the Fencing Confederation of Asia and the Fencing Association of India, hailed the young fencers’ perseverance and determination. He noted that qualifying for the Table of 64 at a Senior World Championship reflects the rapidly improving standards of Indian fencing on the global map. Mehta emphasized that this breakthrough will serve as a massive inspiration for upcoming athletes nationwide, while extending heartfelt congratulations to the fencers, their personal coaches, and the support staff.
India has fielded a strong 24-member contingent at the 2026 Championships, divided equally between 12 male and 12 female athletes competing across Épée, Foil, and Sabre disciplines. While Taniksha and Prachi stole the spotlight on the opening day, the Men’s Individual Foil qualifiers saw India’s four-member squad gain valuable international exposure against world-class competitors. Among the men’s foilists, Sachin was the top Indian performer, finishing 107th overall, followed by Aditya at 137th, Sanasam Hemash Singh at 143rd, and Tejas Manoj Patil at 149th.

With qualification secured, Taniksha Khatri and Prachi Lohan now shift their focus to the main draw scheduled for July 25 at the AsiaWorld-Expo venue. The duo will step back onto the strip in the Table of 64, where they aim to push further and battle for spots in the last 32.
