Tata Altroz iCNG: A Budget-Friendly Solution to Rising Fuel Costs

Date:

Rising Fuel Prices Push Demand for CNG Cars

With petrol and diesel prices continuing to fluctuate, many car buyers in India are now turning toward CNG vehicles as a cost-effective alternative. Responding to this demand, the Tata Motors has introduced the Tata Altroz iCNG, a premium hatchback designed to deliver strong fuel efficiency while maintaining performance and comfort.

The Altroz iCNG aims to offer customers a practical solution for daily commuting without the high running costs associated with traditional fuel vehicles. By combining modern design, safety features, and improved mileage, the car is becoming a popular choice for budget-conscious drivers.

Innovative Twin-Cylinder Technology

One of the standout features of the Tata Altroz iCNG is its twin-cylinder CNG technology. Unlike traditional CNG vehicles that sacrifice boot space for a large gas cylinder, Tata has introduced two smaller cylinders placed under the boot floor.

This innovative design ensures that the car retains a usable luggage compartment while still providing adequate CNG storage capacity. It solves one of the biggest concerns customers have with CNG cars—limited cargo space.

The design not only improves practicality but also enhances safety and balance by distributing the cylinder weight more evenly.

Engine, Performance and Mileage

The Tata Altroz iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a CNG system, producing around 72 bhp of power and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode.

The car offers smooth driving dynamics and is suitable for city traffic as well as occasional highway journeys. Another advantage is the single ECU system, which allows the car to start directly in CNG mode and switch seamlessly between petrol and CNG.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Altroz iCNG offers an impressive mileage of about 26.2 km/kg, making it one of the most economical hatchbacks in its segment.

Premium Features and Comfortable Interior

The Altroz iCNG does not compromise on comfort or features. It offers a wide range of modern amenities including:

  • Touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Automatic climate control
  • Rear AC vents
  • Wireless charger
  • Voice-enabled sunroof in higher variants
  • Premium audio system

These features help the car maintain its reputation as a premium hatchback while offering lower running costs compared to petrol models.

Price and Market Competition

The CNG variants of the Altroz start around ₹7.5 lakh and go up to about ₹10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on the variant.

In the Indian market, the Altroz competes with popular premium hatchbacks such as:

  • Maruti Suzuki Baleno
  • Toyota Glanza
  • Hyundai i20

However, the Altroz iCNG stands out due to its innovative twin-cylinder technology, strong safety reputation, and practical design.

A Smart Choice for Budget-Conscious Buyers

As fuel prices remain a concern for many households, vehicles like the Altroz iCNG offer an attractive alternative. By combining fuel efficiency, modern features, and premium styling, Tata Motors has created a car that appeals to both new buyers and those looking to reduce their fuel expenses.

With its practical technology and competitive pricing, the Altroz iCNG is likely to remain a strong contender in the growing CNG car segment in India.
