Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially unveiled its inaugural electric SUV for the Indian market, named the Urban Cruiser Ebella. This mid-size electric vehicle (EV) is built upon the same platform as Maruti Suzuki’s Electric Vitara, marking a significant entry for Toyota into the electric segment in India.
Performance and Advanced Features
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is projected to deliver an ARAI-certified range of 543 kilometers on a single full charge, achieved with its larger battery pack option. Two battery configurations will be available: a 49kWh unit producing 144hp, and a more powerful 61kWh pack generating 174hp. Both variants are designed to offer 189Nm of torque. Buyers will have the choice between Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) options.
Safety and driver assistance are key aspects of the new Ebella, which includes Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This suite features capabilities such as adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. Further safety provisions encompass six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard.
Interior and Design Highlights
Inside, the Urban Cruiser Ebella features a contemporary cabin equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens, one for the infotainment system and another for the digital driver display. Premium amenities include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control. Driver ergonomics are enhanced with a rotary dial gear selector and a two-spoke steering wheel.
The exterior design distinguishes the Ebella with sleek LED headlights and a muscular front bumper, differentiating it from its platform sibling. It rides on 18-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels and features black body cladding for a robust aesthetic. The rear is characterized by connected LED taillamps and a roof spoiler. With a length of 4,285mm and a wheelbase of 2,700mm, the SUV promises a spacious interior.
Market Positioning and Future Outlook
While official pricing details have not yet been announced, reports suggest the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella could be priced between ₹18 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom). This electric SUV is set to compete directly with models like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric, and also the Tata Nexon EV. The vehicle is anticipated to be available in showrooms starting in early 2026, with potential offers including an 8-year battery warranty and a 60% assured buyback scheme.
