Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has voiced criticism towards India following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expression of concern regarding reported drone attacks on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official residence. Ukraine has refuted allegations of carrying out any such assault.
Zelensky Accuses India of Double Standards
President Zelensky accused India, along with other nations, of applying a double standard. He highlighted that while these countries condemned the alleged drone attack on Putin’s residence, they had not previously spoken out against attacks on Ukrainian children. Zelensky clarified that Ukraine was not responsible for any drone attacks on the Russian leader’s home.
According to a report from Kyiv Independent, during an online press conference, Zelensky expressed his confusion and disappointment that India, the UAE, and certain other countries criticized the alleged drone strikes, which he stated never occurred. He contrasted this with the lack of condemnation for Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
Background of PM Modi’s Statement and Ukraine’s Response
The situation follows Russia’s claim on December 29 that Ukraine attempted to attack President Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones. In response to these claims, Prime Minister Modi shared a post on X, indicating his deep concern over the reports targeting President Putin’s residence. He emphasized that diplomatic efforts remain the optimal path to de-escalate hostilities and achieve peace, urging all parties to refrain from actions that could undermine peace initiatives.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Sybiha conveyed his country’s disappointment and concern regarding the statements issued by India, the UAE, and Pakistan. Sybiha stated on X that Russia has yet to present any credible evidence to substantiate the alleged attack on Putin’s residence, affirming that no such evidence exists because no such attack transpired.
