iPhone 18 Launch Expected to Face Delay Until 2027

Date:

Apple, renowned for its annual September iPhone launches, typically introduces a series of four new models each year. However, recent reports suggest a possible deviation from this long-standing tradition, with the standard iPhone 18 potentially facing a delay.

Factors Influencing the Delayed Launch

The postponement of the iPhone 18 launch, which was initially anticipated in 2026, could now extend until 2027. According to a Nikkei Asia report, Apple is contending with escalating costs for essential components, including memory chips. To efficiently manage resources and maximize profits from its premium device lineup, the company might defer the iPhone 18’s introduction until the first half of 2027. This strategic decision could also help mitigate potential supply chain challenges.

Another significant factor contributing to the potential delay is the ongoing development of Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone. This device is expected to necessitate intricate manufacturing processes and incorporate novel materials. Apple aims to circumvent any technical impediments before commencing large-scale production, leading to adjustments in its launch strategy.

Insights from Industry Analysts and Future Models

This is not the first instance where a delay for the iPhone 18 has been suggested. Prominent figures such as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, The Information, and well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have previously indicated that Apple might not release the iPhone 18 in 2026. Some reports have even proposed that an iPhone 18e model could be unveiled in early 2027.

Leaks concerning the iPhone 18 hint at several modifications, possibly including a simplified camera control button without a capacitive touch sensor, aimed at reducing production costs. Furthermore, an upgrade to 12GB of RAM from the current 8GB in existing models is anticipated, alongside a potential camera enhancement to a 24-megapixel sensor from 18 megapixels.

Apple reportedly has at least five new iPhone models in its development pipeline. These include the iPhone Air 2, the standard iPhone 18, and three premium devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Fold. While the shipment status for the iPhone Air 2 remains unclear, the September 2026 launch event is more likely to feature the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone. Earlier leaks also suggest the iPhone Air 2 might debut with the iPhone 19 series in September 2027.
