Ludhiana Police Cracks Down on Arms, Crime — 200 Licenses Cancelled

Date:

Ludhiana Police have launched an intensified city-wide crackdown aimed at reducing gun violence, curbing crime and improving public safety. The enforcement drive includes the cancellation of hundreds of gun licenses, multiple arrests in robbery and theft cases, and ongoing operations against criminal elements across the city.

Citywide Campaign Against Armed Crime

In a major move to curb weapon-related crimes, the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate announced the cancellation of 200 gun licenses held by individuals deemed a threat to public safety. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to curb the glamorization of firearms and illegal use of licensed weapons following recent violent incidents across the city.

Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated authorities are targeting license holders whose records show involvement in criminal cases, social media promotion of gun culture, or other activities that undermine public safety. The crackdown marks a significant enforcement effort aligned with the government’s commitment to reduce violent crime.

Arrests and Seizures

Alongside the licensing action, Ludhiana Police arrested 17 individuals in connection with a series of robbery and theft cases. During these operations, officers recovered:

  • Two country-made pistols

  • 12 cartridges

  • Six two-wheelers

  • 24 mobile phones

Recovered items were seized as evidence, and all suspects are now in judicial custody awaiting further legal proceedings.

These arrests are part of an ongoing crime control initiative to dismantle networks involved in theft, armed robbery and other offences that threaten community safety.

Gang Violence and Public Safety Concerns

Ludhiana has experienced a spike in violent incidents between rival groups. Police have registered multiple FIRs after a recent clash involving gunfire between two gangs, resulting in several injuries, one person being shot, and property damage, including a torched motorcycle.

Law enforcement officers intensified patrols in hot-spot areas and used intelligence inputs to track suspects. Public appeals have been issued to citizens to cooperate with police investigations and report suspicious activities.

Community Reactions and Police Response

The cancellation of gun licenses has drawn mixed reactions from residents. Many support the crackdown, believing it will deter illicit weapon use and reduce street violence. Others express concern over the process and emphasize the need for transparency and fair legal review.

Police officials reaffirmed that the enforcement drive strictly adheres to legal procedures. They stressed that only those violating the Arms Act or posing safety risks are affected.

Looking Forward

The Ludhiana Police’s multi-pronged action signals a shift toward more proactive policing. With continued raids, intelligence-led enforcement and community engagement, authorities hope to restore public confidence and significantly bring down crime rates across the district.
