Retreat Ceremony Timing Changed at Attari Border

Date:

New Schedule Announced for Daily Retreat Parade

The iconic Retreat Ceremony at the Attari–Wagah Border near Amritsar has received an updated schedule. According to Punjab authorities and Border Security Force officials, the daily ceremony — famed for its patriotic atmosphere, synchronized drills, and flag-lowering spectacle — will now take place between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM. This adjustment reflects seasonal changes in daylight and aims to improve convenience for spectators.

Previously, the parade was held earlier in the evening, beginning in the late afternoon. Because sunset shifts during winter and early spring months, organizers have re-timed the event to ensure better visibility and comfort for large crowds that travel from all across India and abroad to witness this unique border tradition.

Reason Behind the Time Change

Officials explained that fluctuating daylight hours and audience convenience were the key reasons behind the decision. Protocol officer Arun Mahal stated that the timing has been revised to accommodate earlier sunsets and to allow visitors to enjoy the ceremony without discomfort. Spectators are encouraged to plan their arrival according to the new schedule to avoid any inconvenience during entry, security checks, and seating arrangements.

Visitor Guidance and Safety Protocols

With countless tourists and local attendees gathering daily for the retreat ceremony, authorities have emphasized safety, crowd management, and adherence to the updated schedule. Those planning to attend are advised to reach the venue well before the new starting time to enjoy the full parade experience.

Despite minor changes to scheduling and logistics, the ceremony continues to be a major cultural attraction and symbol of pride for Indians and foreign visitors alike. Its powerful display of discipline, music, and unity makes it a must-see event in Amritsar’s tourism calendar.
