Central Jail Drug & Mobile Smuggling Racket Busted: PESCO Worker Arrested

Date:

Ludhiana Central Jail Smuggling Case Overview

Police in Ludhiana uncovered a drug and mobile phone smuggling racket operating inside the Central Jail, leading to the arrest of two inmates and a utility worker. The action followed a complaint filed by the jail’s Assistant Superintendent after contraband was found during a routine search of cells.

During the inspection, officers recovered illegal substances including 30 grams of narcotic drugs, 1,400 grams of tobacco, and two mobile phones from prisoners identified as Satwinder Singh and Ricky.

Investigation and Arrest of PESCO Employee

Following thorough questioning of the accused inmates, police discovered that a PESCO employee was allegedly involved in supplying the contraband into the jail. Acting on this intelligence, authorities registered a case and arrested Manpreet Singh, the implicated utility worker.

The case highlights ongoing challenges with contraband infiltration into correctional facilities — where mobiles and drugs are often used to coordinate criminal activity from within prison walls. This arrest represents a vital step in cracking down on such illegal networks and enhancing security protocols.

Government and Law Enforcement Response

While detailed charges are expected to be framed under applicable sections of the law, the police department reiterated its commitment to combating smuggling and illegal activity in custodial environments. Officials confirmed that the investigation is continuing as they seek to uncover wider links and networks.
