India Offers Condolences on Khamenei’s Death; Foreign Secretary Signs Condolence Book

Date:

India Expresses Official Condolences

India has officially expressed condolences following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Indian government conveyed its sympathy through diplomatic channels, marking its first formal reaction to the incident that has shaken the Middle East and drawn global attention.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi and signed the condolence book on behalf of the Government of India. The gesture symbolized solidarity with the Iranian people during a period of national mourning.

Condolence Book Signed at Iranian Embassy

The condolence book was opened at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi, allowing diplomats, officials, and members of the public to pay tribute to the late Iranian leader.

During his visit, Misri expressed India’s sympathy to the Iranian government and people. By signing the condolence register, he formally conveyed India’s respect for the deceased leader and acknowledged the loss felt by the Iranian nation.

The embassy had earlier announced that the condolence book would remain open on specific dates so that diplomats and visitors could express their condolences. The move reflects the diplomatic practice of honoring global leaders after their passing and maintaining respectful relations between countries.

Khamenei’s Death and Rising Regional Tensions

Khamenei, who served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, died following an airstrike reportedly carried out during escalating hostilities involving the United States and Israel. The incident has significantly increased tensions across the Middle East and sparked strong reactions from governments and communities worldwide.

His leadership spanned more than three decades, during which he played a key role in shaping Iran’s political system, foreign policy, and regional strategy. Under his rule, Iran remained a major geopolitical player in West Asia while navigating sanctions, domestic unrest, and international disputes.

The circumstances surrounding his death have raised fears of further escalation in the already volatile region. Governments across the world have called for restraint and dialogue to prevent the conflict from widening.

India Calls for Peace Amid Crisis

Amid the ongoing tensions, Indian leaders have emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue rather than military confrontation.

India maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with several countries in the Middle East, including Iran, making stability in the region a key priority for New Delhi. The government has reiterated that peaceful negotiations remain the most effective path to resolving international disputes.

India’s gesture of condolence also highlights its balanced diplomatic approach, as it seeks to maintain relations with multiple nations in the region while advocating for peace and stability.
