Sudden Fire on Punjab’s Garib Rath Express

A sudden fire broke out on the Garib Rath Express at Sirhind railway station in Punjab. Passengers panicked as flames erupted inside the train. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated safely without any fatalities.

Cause of Fire and Impact

Preliminary reports suggest that the fire started in coach number 19 due to a short circuit. Several traders from Ludhiana were traveling in the affected coach. Witnesses reported that smoke and flames quickly spread, causing panic among passengers.

Emergency Response

Seeing the fire, the loco pilot applied the emergency brake to stop the train. Passengers quickly disembarked with their belongings. Some passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation. Railway and police teams reached the scene promptly and managed to control the fire after about an hour. One woman reportedly suffered minor burns.

Railway Statement

Northern Railway released a statement confirming that the fire occurred on train number 12204, Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath, near Bathinda station. Quick action ensured that the fire was extinguished, and no casualties were reported. One passenger received minor treatment at a hospital. The train is expected to resume shortly, and an investigation has been ordered.

Passenger Experience

Passengers stated that the train crossed Sirhind station around 7 AM when smoke was noticed in coach number 19. A passenger immediately pulled the chain and raised an alarm. Other passengers nearby evacuated their coaches amid panic, leaving behind some luggage. TTEs and train pilots on board informed railway control immediately.
