Tension Erupts Over Joint Family Land

A long-running dispute over jointly owned agricultural land turned violent in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, leaving six people injured after members of the same extended family clashed in the fields. The incident took place in Dulat village and created panic among local residents as the disagreement escalated into a serious confrontation. According to initial reports, both sides had been involved in a land-related dispute for quite some time, and tensions had been building over ownership and usage rights of the shared property.

Verbal Argument Escalates into Bloody Clash

Witnesses stated that the confrontation began when members of the two groups came face-to-face in the fields. What started as a heated exchange of words quickly intensified into a violent altercation. As tempers flared, physical fighting broke out between the relatives, turning the farmland into a scene of chaos. Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, but the situation had already spiraled out of control.

Firing Reported During the Incident

During the clash, shots were allegedly fired by one of the groups. Authorities confirmed that at least one individual sustained a gunshot injury. The firing added another layer of seriousness to the dispute and prompted immediate police intervention. Investigators are currently working to determine who opened fire and the exact number of rounds that were discharged during the incident.

Six People Injured, Four in Critical Condition

The violent confrontation resulted in injuries to six people. Four individuals from one side of the dispute and two from the opposing side were hurt. All the injured were initially taken to a hospital in Batala for treatment. Medical officials later revealed that four of the victims were in critical condition and were referred to a hospital in Amritsar for advanced medical care. The condition of the remaining injured individuals is reported to be stable.

Police Launch Investigation

Police teams arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the clash. Officers shifted the injured to nearby medical facilities and began collecting evidence. Statements from witnesses and family members are being recorded, and a formal case is being registered. Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the violence and are also focusing on the firing incident to identify those responsible.

Growing Concern Over Land-Related Family Disputes

Incidents involving land ownership disagreements continue to pose challenges in rural areas, where family property often becomes the source of prolonged conflicts. The latest episode in Gurdaspur highlights how unresolved disputes can quickly turn dangerous, affecting not only the families involved but also the wider community.
