India posts big total after solid start

In the Women’s World Cup 2025 Final, India Women defeated South Africa by 52 runs to clinch their first-ever World Cup title. Batting first, India posted 298/7, thanks to brilliant fifties from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a solid start with a 104-run partnership in 17.4 overs.

Middle order stumbles but Deepti rescues innings

After Mandhana’s 45 off 58 balls, Shafali continued aggressively, scoring 87 runs from 78 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues added 24 runs, but wickets fell regularly in the middle overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (20 off 29) and Richa Ghosh (34 off 24) added crucial runs to steady the innings.

Deepti Sharma powers India near 300

All-rounder Deepti Sharma played a vital role, scoring 58 runs off 58 balls before being run out on the final delivery. Her composed innings took India close to the 300-mark. South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka claimed 3 wickets for 58 runs, while Mlaba, Tryon, and de Klerk took one wicket each.

Historic win for Indian women

Chasing 299, South Africa fell 52 runs short as India scripted history, lifting their maiden Women’s World Cup trophy. The victory marked a new era for Indian women’s cricket.
