Lohri Kite Flying Faces Morning Delays Due to Fog in Punjab

Date:

Lohri celebrations in Punjab saw initial disruptions to kite flying activities on Tuesday morning, as dense fog and cold winds blanketed various regions. Kite enthusiasts, particularly in Firozpur, Bathinda, and Ludhiana, experienced disappointment due to the adverse weather conditions, leading to a subdued start compared to previous years.

Weather Update and Afternoon Outlook

However, the weather is now showing signs of improvement. As the fog begins to dissipate and a gentle sunlight emerges, young people are starting to gather on rooftops, with kite flying commencing across the affected areas. It is anticipated that kite flying will continue for approximately two to three hours during the afternoon.

Despite the afternoon reprieve, an alert for renewed fog has been issued for the evening. A positive note for the festive day is the forecast predicting no rainfall this year, offering some relief to the ongoing celebrations.

Broader Lohri Festivities Underway

Beyond the skies, preparations for traditional Lohri bonfires are actively progressing. The evening will feature customary rituals, including the adding of sesame seeds to the Lohri fire. The festival is also being observed throughout the day at various commercial and educational institutions, where sweets have been distributed in offices and schools.

Furthermore, with the start of the New Year for both Sikh and Hindu communities on 1 Magh, temples and Gurdwara Sahibs have begun their decorations. Sri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab, holding particular significance, is hosting a fair that commenced today. Political conferences are also scheduled to take place there on January 14, with preparations currently in full swing.
