Next-Gen Electric Mobility: MG Motor India Expands Its EV Portfolio

MG Motor India is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming MG Hector Tomahawk Electric SUV. Built on the carmaker’s new “Adapt” modular architecture, the Tomahawk marks a crucial shift in MG’s electrification strategy for India. Moving away from traditional combustion engine layouts, this all-electric SUV introduces a fresh design language, enhanced road presence, and advanced EV engineering aimed at buyers seeking a spacious, high-tech family SUV.

Radical Exterior Styling and Commanding Stance

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV features a bold design that sets it apart from the existing Hector range. Upfront, the SUV boasts a tall, boxy silhouette with an upright nose and a prominent closed-off grille section engineered for optimal EV aerodynamics. Full-width LED daytime running lights (DRLs) connect the rectangular LED headlamps, creating a futuristic lighting signature.

In profile, the SUV highlights clean body lines, heavy black cladding around the wheel arches, traditional pull-type door handles, and subtle chrome accents along the window line. Measuring approximately 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and possessing a generous 2,810 mm wheelbase, the Hector Tomahawk ensures a dominant road stance that directly competes with mid-size and full-size electric SUVs in India.

Premium Interior Layout and High-Tech Cabin Features

Inside, the Hector Tomahawk combines luxury with modern minimalism. The cabin is trimmed in a dual-tone beige and black palette featuring soft-touch leatherette materials across the dashboard and door panels. Designed primarily in a spacious 5-seater configuration (with 3-row options anticipated), the layout provides generous legroom and shoulder room for all passengers.

At the center of the dashboard sits a massive 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and connected-car tech. Key interior highlights include a fully digital instrument cluster, multi-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger. Safety features comprise multiple airbags, 360-degree cameras, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and an advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite.

Battery, Motor Specifications, and Claimed 530 KM Driving Range

Powering the MG Hector Tomahawk EV is a 69.2 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack paired with a front-mounted single electric motor. The powertrain delivers an estimated output of 201 bhp (204 PS) and 310 Nm of peak torque.

MG claims a driving range of up to 530 km on a single full charge under standard test conditions. The SUV supports fast DC charging, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 40 minutes, alongside standard AC home charging capabilities. Following the initial pure-electric launch, MG is also expected to introduce a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant to cater to long-distance buyers seeking hybrid flexibility.

Market Positioning: Rivalry with Mahindra XEV 9S and Tata Harrier EV

Upon its official launch, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV will compete directly with upcoming premium electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S, Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Harrier EV. With its combination of a long-range battery, high-end cabin amenities, and aggressive expected pricing starting around ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tomahawk aims to redefine value in India’s growing mid-size electric SUV market.
