Shreyas Iyer Admitted to ICU After Serious Injury During Sydney ODI Against Australia

Date:

Accident During Sydney ODI

India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury during the third ODI match against Australia in Sydney. While running backward to take a catch of Alex Carey near backward point, Iyer fell awkwardly and injured his left rib. He was seen in severe pain immediately after the fall and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

Admitted to ICU Due to Internal Bleeding

According to a report by the BCCI, Iyer sustained internal bleeding following the impact on his ribs. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Sydney, where doctors admitted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring.

Risk of Infection, Under Strict Medical Observation

As per PTI, the internal bleeding has increased the risk of infection. Doctors have advised that Iyer remain hospitalized for five to seven days until his condition stabilizes. The BCCI medical team is in constant touch with the hospital staff and keeping a close watch on his recovery.

Long Recovery Expected

Initially, it was believed that Shreyas Iyer would recover within three weeks, but due to the severity of the injury and internal bleeding, his rehabilitation period is likely to be extended. Medical experts have strictly advised him against any physical training or cricket activity until he makes a full recovery.
