Gold Worth ₹2.24 Crore Recovered from Passenger Arriving from Malaysia

Date:

Major Gold Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Airport

Customs officials successfully intercepted a major gold smuggling attempt after recovering gold worth approximately ₹2.24 crore from a passenger who arrived in India from Malaysia. The accused passenger was stopped during routine checking after officials became suspicious of his movements and luggage. Authorities later discovered a large quantity of concealed gold during a detailed search operation.

Gold Hidden Cleverly to Avoid Detection

According to officials, the smuggled gold had been hidden in a sophisticated manner to escape airport security checks. However, customs officers managed to detect the illegal consignment using surveillance methods and technical inspection equipment. The recovered gold was seized immediately under the provisions of the Customs Act.

Investigators stated that the passenger failed to provide proper documents or legal declarations related to the gold. Authorities suspect that the accused may be linked to an organized smuggling network operating through international routes.

Customs Department Begins Investigation

After the seizure, the customs department launched a detailed investigation to identify other individuals connected with the case. Officials are also examining the passenger’s travel history, communication records, and financial transactions.

Airport authorities said that strict monitoring has been increased at international terminals due to the growing number of smuggling attempts involving gold and other valuable items. Customs officers continue to remain on high alert to stop illegal imports entering the country.

Rise in Gold Smuggling Cases

In recent months, several cases of gold smuggling have been reported at Indian airports, especially from countries in Southeast Asia and the Gulf region. Experts believe the high price of gold and import duty differences encourage illegal smuggling activities.

Authorities have warned travelers that carrying undeclared gold into the country is a punishable offense and strict legal action can be taken against violators.

Officials Reaffirm Commitment Against Smuggling

Customs officials stated that continuous intelligence gathering and improved airport security systems are helping agencies crack down on smuggling operations. They also appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and report suspicious activities related to illegal trade.

The seized gold has been taken into official custody, while further questioning of the accused passenger is underway. More arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
