NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Announced: NTA To Conduct Exam On June 21

Date:

Paper Leak Controversy Leads To Fresh Examination

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced that the NEET UG 2026 re-examination will be conducted on June 21, 2026. The decision comes after the original examination held on May 3 was cancelled due to allegations of a paper leak and examination irregularities across several states. The announcement has brought major relief to lakhs of medical aspirants waiting for clarity regarding the future of the exam.

The Ministry of Education approved the re-exam following nationwide protests by students and parents demanding transparency and fairness in the medical entrance process. NEET UG is India’s biggest medical entrance examination and is mandatory for admission into MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical courses.

Re-Exam Date And Important Schedule

According to the official notification issued by NTA, the fresh NEET UG 2026 exam will take place on Sunday, June 21. Candidates who had already registered for the earlier examination will not need to apply again. Fresh admit cards will be issued before the examination.

Reports suggest that admit cards may be released around June 14, while examination centres and updated guidelines will be shared through official channels. Students have been advised to regularly check the official NTA website for updates related to exam timing, centre allotment and instructions.

Government Announces Major Reforms

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also announced several reforms after the controversy surrounding the paper leak. The government stated that strict security arrangements will be implemented during the re-exam to prevent malpractice and ensure transparency.

Officials revealed that from next year onwards, NEET examinations may shift to a computer-based format to improve security and reduce the risk of paper leaks. Additional surveillance measures, biometric verification and tighter coordination with local authorities are also expected during the upcoming examination.

Students Asked To Ignore Rumours

The NTA has issued a warning asking students and parents to stay away from fake news and misinformation spreading on social media platforms. Authorities clarified that only updates available on official NTA portals should be trusted.

Students were advised not to rely on unofficial links, messages or claims related to answer keys, leaked papers or revised schedules. The agency also shared helpline numbers and email support for candidates facing issues regarding admit cards or examination centres.

Investigation Into Paper Leak Continues

The investigation into the alleged NEET paper leak is still ongoing. Initial reports claimed that certain “guess papers” distributed before the exam allegedly matched several questions asked in the actual examination. This created nationwide controversy and forced authorities to cancel the earlier test.

Law enforcement agencies and central investigative teams are currently examining the matter. The government has promised strict action against those involved in any form of malpractice.

Relief And Pressure For Medical Aspirants

While the announcement of the new date has brought some relief to students, many candidates are also feeling pressure due to the limited preparation time available before the re-exam. Experts have advised students to focus mainly on revision, mock tests and maintaining consistency in preparation.

Medical aspirants across India are now preparing once again with hopes of securing admission into top medical colleges through NEET UG 2026.
