Overloaded Tipper Crushes Former Sarpanch to Death in Punjab

Date:

Tragic Road Accident in Achalpur

In a grim road incident late on February 25, 2026, an overloaded tipper truck crushed a former village sarpanch in Acalpur village, located within the Garhshankar Assembly segment of Punjab. The victim, identified as former sarpanch Chuhad Singh, was engaged in mining work at the site when the massive tipper lost control and crushed him under its wheels.

According to local eyewitness accounts, the tipper was transporting heavy loads far beyond its permitted capacity. Rather than being stopped by authorities, these vehicles reportedly operate with impunity during the daytime, often flouting safety rules and overloading norms. The tragic collision has once again highlighted serious gaps in enforcing transport and road safety regulations in the region.

Local Outrage and Administrative Response

Community leaders and residents expressed deep anger toward the local administration, claiming that repeated written complaints and peaceful protests had been lodged about the reckless movement of overloaded tipper trucks before the tragedy. Locals allege that while officials issue directives on paper, these are not actively implemented on the ground, allowing dangerous vehicles to continue operating unchecked in and around village roads.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the overloaded tipper fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police have taken note of the complaints, and an investigation is expected to determine why the vehicle was permitted to operate despite repeated warnings.

Rising Fatalities Linked to Overloaded Vehicles

This fatality marks a concerning pattern of serious road accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles in Punjab’s rural belts. Safety advocates say that overloading not only endangers drivers and workers at mining or construction sites, but also the daily commuters and residents who live near busy transport routes. Calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws have increased, especially on rural roads where overloaded vehicles frequently bypass regulatory checks.
